THE ARTS SOCIETY
CHILTERN

Members in the Society steward and guide in historic houses and work on special one-off projects approved by The Arts Society HQ.

As part of our celebrations for the CDFAS fiftieth anniversary in 2015, a group of heritage volunteers, led by Judith McBride made a delightful crazy patchwork quilt for the late Victorian bedroom in the Haddenham cottage at the Chiltern Open Air Museum which is now in situ.

Volunteers have recently completed a four year project archiving 5000 books in Chequers Library, the Prime Minister's country house, and will next make an inventory of the items kept in the book store and attic rooms. Before the Chequers project, volunteers archived the vast collection of 16thC-20thC documents at Dorney Court. Past projects have included cleaning books and documents at Windsor Castle, and picture frames at Eton College, packing artefacts at Household Cavalry Museum for transport to Whitehall, and leather-dressing old books in the Kedermister Library, Langley. All tasks are undertaken after appropriate training and new volunteers are always welcome.

AN MBE FOR A HERITAGE VOLUNTEER

In 2012, Barbara Cullimore was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her outstanding service as a Heritage Volunteer over many years. Our society is justly proud of her achievement and recognition.
